Biographical Information:
In its review of his debut at LINCOLN CENTER in the leading tenor role of "Prince Dimitri Nekludoff" in a concert performance of Franco Alfano’s rarely-performed opera, Risurrezione, The New York Times singled out tenor Michele Fiammardente for his “fine singing” and “stylish Italianate tenor”. America Oggi said that his "beautiful voice" found "highlights of diamond-like brilliance" and the American Record Guide said that he "sang ... with a passion and ardor worthy of his name."
Michele was singled out in the semi-finals of the very first Giuseppe di Stefano International Competition for Tenors by Signore di Stefano and his colleague, Franco Corelli, both judges, for his "voce importante, voce di qualita." The 3rd judge, soprano Licia Albanese, was similarly impressed with the quality and potential of his voice, and later arranged for him to receive an award from her Foundation.
Opera News praised his "fiery" rendition of "Turiddu" in Cavalleria Rusticana, and of his performance of the role of "Dick Johnson" in La Fanciulla del West, another Opera News reviewer said that he made the most of his "beautiful tenor voice".
Of his Canadian debut as "Rodolfo" in La Boheme it was reported that he "sang with Pavarotti-like richness, and his high notes were a joy."
Most recently, Michele was engaged by the Washington National Opera (DC) to serve as cover for Metropolitan Opera tenor Richard Margison as "Pollione" in their production of Bellini's Norma. He is also preparing the role of "Otello" in connection with an evening of highlights from the opera slated for Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, New York.
Michele made his Oriental debut in Hong Kong (CHINA) as “Pinkerton” in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Concurrently with his initial appearance at Lincoln Center, Michele also made his debut with the Palm Beach Opera (Florida) under the baton of the late Maestro Anton Guadagno, as “Pollione” in Bellini’s Norma. Michele also worked with Maestro Guadagno in Brescia, ITALY on an open-air production of Verdi's Il Trovatore, in which he covered Metropolitan Opera tenor Fabio Armiliato.
Mr. Fiammardente has established an international reputation as an artist who combines both vocal beauty and dramatic flair.
He has performed with opera companies on four continents – Europe, North America, Asia and Australasia, achieving consistent critical acclaim. His attractive stage presence and subtle characterizations have won him wide audience appeal. Among his many appearances are those with Lyric Opera of Queensland, Brisbane (AUSTRALIA), Canterbury Opera Trust, Christchurch (NEW ZEALAND), Opera Northern Ireland, Belfast (UK), Edmonton Opera, Calgary Opera, Saskatoon Opera Association, Opera Lyra, Ottawa (CANADA), Sacramento Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Greater Buffalo Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera Delaware, Boston Concert Opera, and others.
Michele currently numbers over 50 leading operatic tenor roles in his repertoire (see complete repertoire list below). His linguistic and musical versatility has permitted him to embrace the German tenor roles of Richard Strauss and Erich Wolfgang Korngold, several French roles, including “Don Jose,” “Werther,” and “Hoffman,” Slavic operas, notably those of Janacek, the rarities of the Latvian composer, Alfreds Kalnins, and a number of English and American operas.
